Coping With A Sore Tooth Before You Can See A Dentist
Sharing is Caring:

Having toothache can be an extremely painful experience, and it can happen at the most inopportune times when you are not able to seek help from your dentist.

Whether you are away from home traveling, out of the country, or your dentist is not available, there are things that you can do to help give you some relief from pain when you have a problem with your teeth.

Below are some methods you can try for helping to treat your toothache before you get a chance to visit your dentist.

Salt & Hot Water

If your regular dental clinic in Brisbane is not open and you need some relief from your toothache, one of the most common treatments that you can use is hot water mixed with salt. Use water as hot as your mouth can stand without burning, and swill this around and gargle with it, making sure not to swallow it.

The saline solution will help to draw out fluids in the gums, which may be causing pain and will also help to reduce any sensation of aching that you may be experiencing. You can use this method as often as you like, and there are no harmful side effects to this treatment.

A Cold Compress

Another standard treatment for toothache that you can try is using a cold, or ice, compress on the side of your face where you are experiencing pain. An ice compress would be best as it is colder and can help to reduce any swelling in the jaw and reduce any pain or uncomfortableness.

You do not need anything special, a small towel and ice out of your freezer are okay to use, and in a worst-case scenario, you can even use a bag of frozen vegetables.

Hydrogen Peroxide

Hydrogen Peroxide is something that is commonly found in many people’s homes and can also be used when you are suffering from an aching tooth.

Just as with salt and water, swirl the fluid around your mouth and gargle with it also, being careful not to swallow it. You can mix this with water, or use neat Hydrogen Peroxide, and once finished spit it down the drain.

 Alcohol

When we say alcohol, we do not mean that you go out and get blind drunk to try and numb the pain in your mouth! However, you can use spirits such as brandy, vodka, scotch, or whiskey and swish this around your mouth just as with previous methods.

You can also soak cotton wool in the alcohol and place this in your mouth where you are experiencing problems. The alcohol will kill germs around the area and help to numb it also, reducing the amount of pain you are suffering.
