I always preferred going to malls or stores for any kind of shopping because I enjoy the whole shopping process. But, anyway, this new normal has made us shop everything online for our and other’s safety. 

I never thought I would enjoy shopping online, especially for clothes, but it is fun to browse, compare, and select my favourite ones. 

However, there is a whole range and varieties of dresses online to shop which sometimes makes me muddled and put in a dilemma on how to shop online and how to get the ideal size outfit.

Well, these past 1.5 years have taught and experienced me to shop properly and hassle-free.

Hence I would like to share the tricks that helped me out in shopping for dresses online. It will minimize dealing with disappointing returns and exchanges by little planning and smart shopping so that you have the best online shopping experience.

So here are some of the basic and useful tricks to follow to get your perfect fit when buying dresses online.

1) Get proper measurements of yourself

It is the most basic thing you need to do to get that perfect outfit you liked. I assume many of you know their size but wait! So many things have changed in this crisis, including our bodies.

Most of us have gained weight, and therefore, you need to check your current measurement and always be updated. 

Some may not have gained weight but maybe inches, or it may be vice-versa. Thus, take a tape and measure your body. It is ideal for measuring without wearing an unpadded bra. 

2) Check the size charts

Now, as you have taken the measurement and prepared to shop your favourite dresses online. The next important thing is to check the size charts because every brand’s size chart differs.

One company’s 42 inches will differ from the other companies. Also, the size varies according to the types of clothes. For example, my husband’s regular shirt size is 42, but when he shops for a regular fit shirt, the size is 40. 

Even Kurtis or suits when I check in two different brands, they both differ in size chart. So while in one brand, my size fits in ‘ ”M” the other brand I fit in ”L”. 

So always check the brand size chart and then shop accordingly to dress better.

3) Check the fabric

I consider fabric before selecting my dress size because if I buy cotton, it shrinks after a few usages. So I bought one size high.

Furthermore, I don’t prefer polyester fabrics because I live in Delhi’s hot climate. Hence, even though polyester fabrics don’t require ironing before wearing, I don’t go for them because they are not as cool and breathable as cotton fabrics. 

But yeah, if you are buying pants or skirts, then I would recommend them.

4) Read the reviews

If you are reading this post, you might be reading reviews before purchasing dresses online. Most of the online clothing stores have review sections where the past buyers share their opinion.

The reviews can provide real perspective into the insights of the clothing items you’re  considering. For example, you will know if that particular dress fits your size, or you may need to buy larger or smaller, the quality of that dress, colours, or fabric. You will also get an idea of whether most of the customers who bought that outfit were happy or not. 

This way, it will make you decide whether to spend your hard-earned money on that dress.

5) Check the return policy

Even if you have selected the right dress and size, nothing is guaranteed until you get it in your hand and try it for yourself.  

Make sure to check the return policy and see there is no hidden amount to pay later. Most of the online retailers now provide an easy and free return policy. Yet, as a customer, we should be aware so that you don’t need to worry.  

Due to the current crisis and depending upon the cases in cities, return policies have changed a tad bit. So be careful- Read, check and confirm appropriately.
