Every month we have to go through menses and the disturbing menstrual cramps which can be mild to severe. It does affect our plans, moods, and cravings.
I remember on many occasions due to menstrual pain, I had to cancel or postpone my plans, or I had to miss important events. I am sure many of you can relate to this.
Also, the period pain comes with mood swings which are so difficult to explain to other esp. men who always wonder why women behave like this. I wish, only if they could have experienced this.
Menstrual cramps also referred to as dysmenorrhoea causes pain in the lower abdomen or lower back.
Even though menstrual cramps are normal, there are ways that can help to reduce the pain.
Drink More Water
During the menstrual cycle, you must have felt bloated. Drinking more water helps ease bloating and will reduce the symptoms.
Make a habit of drinking 6-8 glasses of water every day. You can squeeze lime or mint for the flavour.
Remember to reduce your salt intake as it causes bloating. Also, stay away from alcohol to avoid dehydration. (Yes, it is true, so no more drinks)
Eat Right Food
We all crave fried, junk foods esp. during menses so try to avoid them.
You can have dark chocolates and satisfy your cravings and uplift the mood as it is advisable due to its rich source of magnesium and less sugar.
Reduce fat and eat more vegetables for cramp relief. Calcium intake can help reduce the pain, so have diets such as beans, almonds, and green leafy vegetables. Also have foods that are high in antioxidants, including blueberries, tomatoes, and cherries.
Pamper yourself with a massage
It is the best time to pamper oneself with a massage as it helps to relieve menstrual cramp pain.
Do the massage for at least 5 minutes by yourself or by someone else and you will feel ease as massage boosts blood flow.
Cut out unnecessary stress
Yes! We all know that stress affects our reproductive hormones. So, not only it is advisable to cut off stress during menstruation, but also when you are trying to conceive.
Instead of taking stress, which will only increase the pain, try to indulge in activities you enjoy.
Exercise as per your comfort
Many women nowadays exercise regularly even when she bleeds as it has been noticed to reduce the menstrual cramps; increases blood circulation and releases endorphins that uplift the mood.
So indulge in any type of physical exercise as per your comfort- be it walking, swimming or running.
