This is my second post on Japanese dramas on Netflix. I enjoy watching J-dramas because it has short & small episodes which I can complete soon. I usually finish it in 3 days and some days if I just want to chill, I binge-watch them in one shot.
Hence, if you have a day for yourself, you can easily enjoy watching Japanese TV shows. Here am listing the dramas I enjoyed watching and am sure you will like them too.
Moreover, I would be adding more dramas to this post if I liked any. So keep checking this article frequently to know the list of Japanese dramas on Netflix.

1. Izakaya Bottakuri – 2018
Episodes: 11
It is a small bar located in Tokyo which is managed by two sisters Mine and Kaoru. Mine is a charming young lady who makes regular home dishes with her own style which is delicious and sometimes she adds and discovers a new menu while talking with her regular customers.
The main aspect of this devouring drama is Mine and her customers who share amazing wisdom while enjoying the delicacies. The drama shows one new dish and sake on each episode which is interesting to watch. I had no idea what sake means until I watched this drama. No doubt, dramas make us learn and know so many different things.
Izakaya means a ‘bar’ and Bottakuri means ‘rip-off’. Although it’s named bottakuri, it’s cheap. While I loved the dishes esp gyoza because it looks like momos, I didn’t like the eel dish (it’s a type of fish, but it looks like…) Further, in episode 7, there is an easy and delicious dish- eggplant & tomato gratin which I will try for sure. 🙂 (EDIT: I made it & it was delicious)
Anyways, if you like watching dramas based on food, then give it a try. Watch this light-hearted feel-good drama for some sumptuous foods (and beverages) and the endearing Mine. It is one of the best Japanese dramas on Netflix.

2. Cant’ Write!? A life without scenario – 2021
Episodes: 8
A struggling screenwriter who is happy being a househusband gets a call from a TV production company to write drama episodes for them which will run on prime time. However, he is skeptical as he has not written much in the past 5 years and now it’s difficult to get ideas to pen down them.
Still, he accepts the offer because he doesn’t want to lose this opportunity to prove his talent and he wish to be known as a successful screenwriter like her popular novelist wife. He had to revise the scripts many times, meet tight deadlines, but he remains patient despite being anxious and tries his best to complete the drama episodes.
I enjoyed the drama because I am a drama lover, so it was good to know what all the screenwriter goes through to put down each episode and how tough it is to make a successful TV show. Secondly, am a blogger, so I could relate to the writing aspects and its difficulties.
This is a new Japanese drama on Netflix 2021. It is a short, fast-paced, and entertaining dorama. I binge-watched it in one go 😉
P.S: I liked the screenwriter family and his adorable kid.

3. Atelier – 2015
Episodes: 13
At first, I thought this drama resemble ‘Devil wears Prada’ because it has- fashion, an older woman who owns a fashion store, a young girl working under her to pursue her passion for fashion. However, as you start watching few episodes you will realize that maybe the concept is similar but the storyline is different.
I loved the fantabulous performance by Mao Daichi who played the boss role, and I was annoyed by Mirei who played the young girl because many times she used to make a weird face which I didn’t like at all, secondly, she starts domineering her boss which I hated and seemed unrealistic.
The writer had penned down artistically the role of the boss, whereas he has lacked in young girl character. (it’s just my personal view)
The drama is interesting to watch till the 9th episode as they overcome many challenges and get ready for the runaway. After that, the drama drags a bit but later focuses on the personal life of the boss and then back to her store. Nevertheless, it is a good Japanese drama on Netflix.

4. Kotaro Lives Alone – 2021
Episodes: 10
Kotaro is a “5-year-old kid” who “lives alone”. The title of the show itself is the synopsis.
This story is fiction about Kotaro who comes to stay alone in a small apartment and greets his neighbours. All the three neighbours including Shin Karino who themselves live alone gradually get affectionate toward Kotaro and empathize with him.
Now you may want to know ‘why’ and ‘how’ Kotaro is staying alone, for that you need to watch this heartwarming drama.
I am totally in awe of that little kid as he looks so cute and sweet. Apart from the looks, his character is like an adult and he has done the performance brilliantly. There is a reason why he is like this; however you will also find he is indeed childlike. I just wished there were few scenes of the happy face of Kotaro because he only smiled once throughout the drama.
You will get to watch and know about Maid café, host in the show. This is the first Japanese dramas on Netflix which I have seen mentioned above things.
The first two episodes may take time to understand, but do not give it up. It is an endearing, simple, and beautiful show that will melt your heart.
P.S: This is a new Japanese drama on Netflix 2021. I am surprised as Netflix has started uploading new dramas recently. Well, am not complaining 😉 Keep adding more J-dramas.

5. Legal v ex-lawyer Shoko Takanashi – 2018
Episodes: 9
Shoko Takanashi is a former lawyer who was disbarred from the law profession due to a gangster incident.
She now works with a small legal team by persuading a professor cum lawyer and together they hire new lawyer & paralegal team and try its best to win each case.
This is not a typical legal courtroom drama, but a feel-good show which has a legal slice of life. All the team members have their own story and together they contribute to making their firm successful.
Every episode has one new case which is interesting to watch. However, I found a flaw or you may say incomplete case. In one of the cases, another culprit was found guilty at the end of that episode, but what his motive was and why he did that crime was not shown which is disappointing as a viewer.
Apart from that, other cases were fine.
Even if you don’t like to watch legal shows, you will like this Japanese legal drama because its vibes are light and lively. So do give it a try.
