She was pretty!! The K-Drama Rom-Com you would love to watch
Sharing is Caring:

The first time I came to know about Korean dramas were 3-4 years back, but I couldn’t get the chance to tune it as I was not much convinced to watch the English subtitle drama and neither I enjoy watching shows on the gadget.

Then last year, I got Google chrome cast and Netflix, which made entertainment more enjoyable and relaxing. Its high quality made me a binge-watcher. Soon, I had seen many movies from my favourite genre “Rom-Com” and then I was looking for something new apart from Hollywood and Bollywood.

So, I thought, let’s try out K-drama. Is it worth-watching as I always preferred movies than web series due to time constraint and also, if the series is entertaining, it makes me want to watch the entire season at one go.

After reading one or two drama storyline, I selected to watch “She Was Pretty” as its synopsis seemed quite interesting and then my first ever K-drama experience started.

“She Was Pretty”

It is a 2015 rom-com drama about two childhood sweethearts (Hye- Jin, and Sung-Joon), who get separated by fate and then meet again after 15years as an acquaintance in the fashion industry.

She was pretty and rich in childhood, but lost everything while growing up. While on the other side, her friend was chubby and turned out to be successful and handsome.

After a gap of 15 years, they decide to meet, but soon she realizes that he was expecting the same pretty girl. So she made her smart best friend (Ha-Ri) to meet him as her.

But they were destined to meet, and soon she gets a job she couldn’t lose in the same company where he is the boss. Now, she tries hard to hide her identity from him.

While working, she becomes friends with her co-worker (Shin-Hyuk) who is quirky, funny and the most adorable, who slowly begins to like her as she is.

Will she stay true to her childhood love or fall for her co-worker?

Second lead syndrome

The story seems predictable, but the way it has been shown will blow your heart away-and make you emotional. Friendship, love, sorrow and everything in between is just so beautiful to watch.

This is the first time that I didn’t have an interest with the main hero, but the second lead that is too handsome and infectious that is sure he will give you Second lead syndrome. He is full of life, kind-hearted and eccentric.

Apart from him; the main female protagonist acting is both humorous and sensitive. We can see her transformation from being unpretty to a pretty woman, but I felt it was shown quite suddenly.

The climax is worth watching as what you may assume earlier may turn out to be something interesting and unexpected. The direction, scenes and the screenplay are superb.

Final Verdict

This drama was a big hit and has been remade in many other languages.

Certainly, worth watching and am glad that my first ever K-drama was “She Was Pretty”. It will enlighten your mood and make you fall in love with the characters ESP the second lead.

Where you can watch with English subtitle

There are many but I watch it on:

  • Netflix (paid)
  • Dramanice (Free with the high-quality movie)

Total 16 episodes.

P.S: As the second lead says in the movie “it’s not over until it’s over”, I hope he comes back with the same light beard looks at his future shows.

What is your thought of this story? Do you watch K-dramas? Any recommendation?
