Love retro music? Watch these TikTok videos that remind you of some great songs of the yesteryears
Sharing is Caring:

Till last year, Priyanka Kandwal was a regular girl shooting regular videos. And then TikTok came into
her life. Today, hailed as TikTok ki Madhubala, Priyanka boasts 1,97,300 followers with the 13 videos
she has created. Most of these videos have hashtags such as retro, classical music, and Bollywood.
She can be seen on social media singing songs like Haal Kaisa Hai Janaab Ka from Chalti Ka Naam
Gaadi, Achha Ji Main Haari from Kala Pani and Dekhne Mein Bhola Hai from Bambai Ka Babu.

Since her popularity, TikTok witnessed a surge in old Bollywood music on the platform, with creators
doing covers of retro music. What’s more: TikTok also witnessed a significant increase in the age
group of people between 40 and 60 on the platform and are leveraging the platform to listen to
songs available while creating videos thanks to the extensive library of songs available from the
SaReGaMa music label.

Music discovery is the natural derivative of TikTok’s short-video format; where music is the
background highlight of innovative and entertaining videos. TikTok’s powerful discovery process allows exposure for artistes and music alike.

The trend of old melodies coming back on the platform has been extremely encouraging for both TikTok and the content creators, as the music catalogue available on TikTok is supporting our users across generations to enjoy and discover evergreen classics.

TikTok Retro Music

Some users like Sahil Kumar have even added a twist to their retro videos. Sahil uses a popular song
that was famous in yesteryear Bollywood and begins adding some modern steps to it. Other users
like Prateek Khatri share TikTok videos where Shamshaad Begum is singing the immortal lines of
‘Leke Pehla Pehla Pyaar’ in the background.

Prateek is moving slowly to the music with a black and white filter giving the video a retro look. All of a sudden, he swipes his hand changing the filter to a modern one, much like the immortal scene in the 1939 Hollywood classic The Wizard of Oz. The song is still the same, but the beats give it a 21st century feel.

It’s not just the TikTok users that are doing their bit, it’s the film industry as well. Marathi celebrity Swapnil Joshi’s video has received 2,30,400 likes and 2300 comments.

TikTok user Simran Namdev seems to have taken a leaf out of Priyanka Kandwal’s book. Using the
black and white filter, Simran takes you back to an era where eye expressions did all the dance
moves and conveyed a message that facial expressions are cooler than modern day dance movies.

What’s more, the content creators are even sharing the hashtag duetworthy, encouraging other
likeminded content creators to collaborate with them to make unique content that goes by TikTok’s
guidelines of spreading joy amongst its community. If you look at Geeta Kapur’s TikTok handle,
where she puts out a video of the legendary Bollywood number Abhi Naa Jaao Chodkar, you will see
her asking her fanbase to join her in a duet, thereby highlighting once again that TikTok is the place
that spreads joy amongst its users.
